Understand how to use Cloud Custodian in the Arxus Portal to oversee cloud resources, policies, and subscription statuses.

Overview

Cloud Custodian in the Arxus Portal empowers you to manage and monitor your cloud subscriptions efficiently. The cloud custodian dashboard portal provides a comprehensive view of all your cloud resources, including their types, groups, and current statuses.


Prerequisites

To use Cloud Custodian in the Arxus Portal you need:

  • Access to the Arxus portal with the appropriate permissions to use this feature.

  • Your company must have you activated this service with Arxus.

How to activate?

If your company has this service active, and you still can’t use it, contact your company portal administrator (usually this person, is who in your company has “Full Role” rights to the users and permission section).

Navigating the Dashboard

This Cloud Custodian dashboard provides a comprehensive view of your cloud environment, allowing you to manage subscriptions and monitor status effectively. You can see at a glance which subscriptions are active, which have Cloud Custodian policies applied, and you can also search for your subscriptions by typing the name you are looking for in the search bar, at the top of the page.
Within the cloud custodian dashboard, you can find various elements, which are;

  • Management Status: Indicates whether Cloud Custodian is enabled or disabled on your Azure subscription.

    • Enabled: Cloud Custodian is enabled on the Azure subscription.

    • Disabled: Cloud Custodian is not enabled on the Azure subscription.

  • Name: Lists the name of each subscription, providing a quick reference to the subscription details.

  • Tenant: Displays the tenant associated with each subscription. The tenant is typically an organization or user group, identified by a unique domain.

  • Cloud Custodian Standard: Shows the number of policies applied under Cloud Custodian Standard for each subscription.

    • Number: Indicates how many standard policies are enabled within the subscription

    • --: Indicates that Cloud Custodian Standard is not applicable or no policies are applied.

  • Cloud Custodian Extended: Shows the number of policies applied under Cloud Custodian Extended for each subscription.

    • Number: Indicates how many extended policies are enabled.

    • --: Indicates that Cloud Custodian Extended is not applicable or no policies are applied.


Interacting with A Cloud Custodian Managed Azure subscription

To view in detail on an Azure Subscription managed by Cloud Custodian in the Arxus Portal. Navigate to Cloud Custodian and click on the subscription you wish to edit or want more information about. (the subscription must have cloud custodian standard or extended enabled) A dialog box will appear on the right side of the screen, displaying various details. Upon selecting an enabled subscription, you can get two detailed tabs about the subscription:

  1. General: The general view, displays information about your subscription: such as;

    • Object ID code: A unique identifier (a GUID) assigned to every entity in Azure Active Directory, such as users, groups, service principals, or applications.

    • Tenant: Dedicated instance of Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) that an organization or individual uses to manage identities, access, and resources.

    • Log analytics workspace code/ Number: a unique identifier assigned to each Log Analytics workspace in Azure. This ID is used to identify and distinguish one workspace from another, allowing for data collection, querying, and monitoring across Azure resource.

    • Recovery Vault: A Recovery Services vault is a storage entity within Azure that holds data copies or configuration information for virtual machines (VMs), workloads, servers, or workstations. These vaults enhance security, offer central monitoring, and support role-based access control for managing backups and recovery points.

    • Cloud Custodian Anti-Malware: If you have Cloud Custodian Anti – Malware enabled on your subscription.

  2. Resources: Here you’ll find details about the resources of the subscription you selected. If you have the correct role, you’ll also be able to edit these resources. In this view you’ll be able to see:

    • Name: The name of the resource

    • Type: The type of your resource

    • Group: What is the group of your resource

    • Status: What is the status of your resource.

Selecting a disabled subscription will show you the same dialog box page, but with no details, as the management status is disabled.

To view your subscription within Azure you can click on the orange icon close to your subscription, and then a new tab will open re-directing you to the Azure Portal.
