Optimizing Savings with Reserved Instances

The Reserved Instances view is part of the Microsoft Cost Report. This report provides you with a detailed analysis of your reserved instances, helping you understand cost trends and identify potential savings opportunities.


Prerequisites

To use Azure Plan Overview in the Arxus Portal you need;

  • Access to the Arxus portal with the appropriate permissions to use this feature.

How to activate?

If your company has this service active, and you still can’t use it, contact your company portal administrator (usually this person, is who in your company has “Full Role” rights to the users and permission section).


Summary Metrics

In the Reserved Instances view, you will find:

  • Reserved Instances Contracts: Displays the number of reserved instances contracts.

  • Reserved Instances Orders: Shows the number of reserved instances orders.

  • Reserved Instances Cost: Presents the total cost of reserved instances.

Visual Data Representation

The Reserved Instances view also includes:

  • How Reserved Instances Costs Evolve Over Time: A bar graph illustrating the cost trends of reserved instances over recent months. This helps you visualize how your reserved instances spending has changed over time.

  • Reserved Instances Expiration: A timeline indicating which reserved instances are about to expire, helping you manage renewals and avoid lapses in service.

  • Reserved Instances SKUs Spending: A bar graph showing which reserved instances SKUs are costing the most, helping you identify and manage high-cost resources.

  • Reserved Instances Orders Count: A breakdown of the number of reserved instances orders by SKU, providing insights into your procurement patterns.

In-Depth Metrics Breakdown

Additionally, the Reserved Instances view provides:

  • Expiration Status: A detailed view of the expiration status of your reserved instances, categorized by timeframes such as "More than 3 months," helping you prioritize renewals.

  • Reserved Instances Cost by SKU: A table that breaks down the costs by specific SKUs, offering a granular view of where your money is going.

Filtering and Search Options

To help you focus your analysis, the report offers:

  • Date Range Selector: You can customize the displayed data by selecting specific date ranges, enabling a focused analysis of cost trends.

  • Subscription Filter: A dropdown that allows for the selection of specific Azure subscriptions, helping to narrow down the data to relevant subsets.

  • Tag Name, Tag Value Filter: An additional filter that allows for more granular analysis based on tags assigned to resources.
